Chisang Clinic

 

Overview: Chisang Clinic now has two clinics in very different locations and altitudes. Chisang Clinic Bhaunne, the first clinic, is located at around 200 feet above sea level in Nepal’s far eastern Plains where the climate is tropical.  Also, at this clinic, Chisang Clinic is working on the Birthing Center Extension Project. Our Birthing Center Extension Project consists of two stages –

 

Completion of the Feasibility Study for the Chisang Clinic Birthing Center, and

Construction of the Chisang Clinic Birthing Center Extension to the present clinic

 

Chisang Clinic has completed the first stage of the Project and is currently working very hard to complete the construction work in time for the Chisang Clinic Birthing Center to operational by early summer.  Feasibility Study for the Chisang Clinic Birthing Center can be accessed at http://chisangclinic.wordpress.com/.

 

The second clinic, Chisang Clinic Dhankuta was recently inaugurated and is located at an altitude of 8,200 feet in Jorpati village in Nepal’s eastern Hill district of Dhankuta.

 

Obstetrical and gynecological care, pediatric care, family planning consultations, nutritional, counseling and diabetic education, wound care to over 200,000 people in over 300 villages through Chisang Clinic’s two static clinics, Community Outreach Clinics and Home Visits.

 

Nepal Medical Excursion:

  1. A twenty day excursion organized by Dr Debendra Karki, Founder and Director of Chisang Clinic, and the clinic staff
  2. Exposure to public, private, NGO and community based healthcare delivery systems in urban and rural Nepal
  3. Introduction to various healing methods including yoga, Shamanism, herbalism and Ayurveda
  4. Hands-on experience at Chisang Clinic Bhaunne in pre-natal and post-natal screenings, birthing services, and community visits as well as inpatient and ambulatory medicine
  5. Lectures provided by content experts covering general public health concerns and burden of disease as well as public health emergencies within the context of Nepal, family planning, fertility transition, and emerging non-communicable diseases and tropical medicine
  6. Sight seeing trips to the Tea Estates in Ilam District which is adjacent to District Darjeeling in the neighboring country of India; visits to United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization World Heritage Sites in and around the Kathmandu Valley; trekking experience to isolated clinics in Tinjure Ranges and the Arun Valley; individual time to tour the city of Kathmandu; Group Dinner at traditional Nepali restaurant

 

Participants:  The program is designed for individuals who have an interest in medicine, public health or nursing.  Open to students and/or faculty.  Approximately twelve participants will be accepted per study tour.

When:  Two opportunities available

Cost: Total cost is $4,500 per trip.  Price includes:  international roundtrip airfare; domestic airfare; all program related transportation, lodging and meals; all fees associated with UNESCO world heritage site visits; baggage handling for one bag (not to exceed 44 lbs); carefully selected English speaking guides and gratuities for local guides and drivers.

 

Not included in the price:  Passport; Nepal visa; immunizations or medications; meals not mentioned as scheduled; personal items such as a la carte orders, room service, and laundry charges; travel health insurance; transportation to and from departure city airport; flight cancellation, baggage insurance; or alcohol.

 

Deposit:  US $1,000 per person to hold position and gain access to travel documents and program materials.  The total balance will be due within three weeks of departure date.

 

Cancellation Policy:  Full refund less the $1,000 deposit for any cancellation received in writing up to 61 days before departure.  After that period fees are as follows:
